Francis W. "Chi Chi" Gallo
October 13, 1942 – October 7, 2025
Francis W. Gallo, affectionately known as "Chi Chi," passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 7, 2025. A lifelong resident of Winsted, Connecticut, Frank was a proud graduate of Avon Old Farms School, Class of 1961.
Frank was a beloved fixture in the Winsted community, best known as the spirited announcer at The Gilbert School's sporting events and the Winsted Pet Parade. His signature voice and infectious enthusiasm became woven into the fabric of these local traditions. A passionate sports fan, Frank rooted loyally for the New York Yankees and Giants, and especially loved watching UConn Women's basketball.
Throughout his life, Frank dedicated himself to serving others and giving back to his community. He was a longtime member of the Republican Town Committee and a generous supporter of youth programs and civic organizations. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Highland Lake Sailing Association and among the early volunteers of the Winsted Ambulance Association. He also enjoyed many years at Laurel Lanes as part of the duckpin bowling league and was an avid golfer.
Frank found true joy in mentoring and encouraging young athletes. He coached Little league baseball, participated in the Punt, Pass & Kick program, officiated swim meets for the Winsted YMCA Water Devils, and later in life, coached women's softball and served as a dedicated Umpire.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Joyce Gallo. He is survived by his three children, Paul Gallo of California, Joyce Ann Gallo of Georgia and Kim Gallo of Goshen. He was a proud and loving grandfather to four granddaughters, Melanie and Kristen Kandefer and Madison and Kelsey Gallo.
Frank's warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He will be deeply remembered by all who knew and loved him.
