James M. Bridgman

James M. Bridgman, 85, of Avon, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Born in Bristol CT, Jim was raised in Plainville. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from George Washington University and his Master's degree in Chemistry from Quinnipiac University. While at school in Washington DC, he met his future wife, Joyce Robinson, at a church youth group. After getting married in 1962, they settled in Avon where they lived for over 50 years. Jim started his career as a clinical chemist and later found his calling as a chemistry and physics teacher at The Master's School in West Simsbury, where students fondly referred to him as Mr. B. He was a long-time member of Valley Community Baptist Church in Avon, serving on many committees and holding various leadership roles. In retirement, he enjoyed spending more time with his family, letterboxing, reading, tutoring and also volunteering for the Avon Historical Society and Meals on Wheels. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce; children: son, Thomas Bridgman and daughters, Cheryl (Scott) Harger and Marcia (Jeremy) Banks; grandchildren: Sierra (Matthew) Boulem, Leah Harger, Chloe Bridgman, Emma Banks and Andrew Banks; great grandson: River Smith. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Lena (Morrill) Bridgman, his brothers, Arthur and Robert Bridgman and infant daughter, Nancy. A memorial service to remember and celebrate Jim's life and faith will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at Valley Community Baptist Church, 590 West Avon Road, Avon.
