Jared Floyd Obituary

Jared Alexander "Red" Floyd It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jared Alexander Floyd, beloved son of James (Al) Floyd and Mary E. Smith-Floyd, who was called home on May 7, 2025. Jared was born on June 22, 1999 in Farmington, CT. He attended Diloreto Magnet School and Pope John Paul in New Britain and graduated from the Pathways Academy of Science and Design in East Hartford, where he was an honor student, in 2017. Jared studied the saxophone at the Artists Collective in Hartford. He enjoyed playing baseball, soccer, basketball, football and driving his parents crazy. Jared was baptized and raised in the Spottswood AME Zion church where he served as an acolyte, a junior usher and performed in the young men's praise dance team. In the last months of his life Jared recommitted to his belief in God and in the power of prayer. He was looking forward to purchasing a home and to traveling. Jared was intelligent, challenging, funny, and not easily dissuaded once he set his mind on something. Jared's family is devastated by his loss and he will be deeply and dearly missed always. In addition to his parents, Jared is survived by his twin brother Jason Floyd, Jason's partner Jane Moretta and his niece Jade Divine Moretta-Floyd of Brooklyn, NY and his older brother Jamal James of Harlem, NY. Jared is survived on his father's side by his uncles Woodrow (Yvonne) Floyd of Bristol, Charles Floyd of Plainville and Larry Floyd of New Britain and was predeceased by his aunt Gloria Jean Johnson. He is also survived by his paternal first cousins Deborah Gregg of New Britain, Brenden (Janet) Floyd of Bristol and Melody Floyd of Silver Spring, Maryland. On his mother's side Jared is survived by his uncle David (Edwina) Smith of Queens, NY, his aunt Sandra Smith of the Bronx, NY and his first cousins Sala (David) Oxford of the Bronx and Morgan Chanon-Smith of Brooklyn. Jared is further survived by a vast extended family of loved ones. Lastly, Jared is survived by his special friend, Keisha Williams of Hartford. Jared loved his family, although he sometimes had a hard time expressing it. His family loved him deeply, although he sometimes had a hard time accepting the love. The family have no words to describe their loss and pain but take comfort in knowing Jared is now at peace. A celebration of Jared's life will be held on Thursday (May 15, 2025) at 11 AM in the Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain. Family and friends are invited to call from 10AM - 11AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mothers United Against Violence (MUAV), 2550 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06120 [email protected] muavct.org (860) 246-1880.
