Joseph Capozzi Obituary

With heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss, we celebrate the vibrant life of Joseph Capozzi, who passed away on June 22, 2025, just one week after his 25th birthday. Joseph was a loving son and brother, and just a day before his passing, he joyfully embraced the title of uncle-a role he was sure to cherish. Born on June 15, 2000, in New Britain, Joseph was a lifelong resident of Plainville, and graduate of Plainville High School, where he excelled on the soccer field, showcasing not only his athletic prowess but also his spirit and dedication to teamwork. A true sports enthusiast, he spent countless hours playing basketball with friends at the YMCA and enjoying rounds of golf, where his infectious laughter and warm smile never failed to brighten the day. Beyond sports, Joseph's compassionate heart shined in his role as a supervisor of a sober house in the Boston area, where for two years he touched the lives of countless individuals seeking redemption and hope. His strength in battling personal challenges inspired those around him, and his legacy of kindness and resilience will forever remain in their hearts. Joseph is now reunited with his beloved mother, Kirsten (Mitera) Zettergren, who was his travel partner and closest confidant. They shared a bond that transcended time and space, and his family finds solace in their reunion. He is survived by his father, Ezio Capozzi, Jr. and his wife Susan Whalen; his sister Nina Capozzi, her fiancé Joseph Spada and their newborn son, Rhodes Joseph Spada; his grandparents, Jeanne Mitera and Ezio Capozzi, Sr., his step-father, Chuck Zettergren and his sons, Dane Zettergren (Nina) and Cole Zettergren; his step-sisters Kristen Whalen-Cassidy (Colin) and Kylie Whalen (Brynn Marcil) along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. In addition to his mom, Kirsten, he was predeceased by his step-brother Ross Zettergren. In lieu of flowers, Joseph may be remembered with contributions to the Connecticut National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at NAMI CT A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Joseph's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Knock Parish-Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St, Farmington.
