Joseph Williams Obituary
Joseph Nathaniel Williams, (affectionately called Uncle Joe) 89, of Windsor, beloved husband for 34 years of Helene (Chambers) Williams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at his home. He was born in Red Hills, St. Andrew, Jamaica on April3, 1936, son of the late Arthur and Lurline (Bennett) Williams.
Uncle Joe was blessed with two powerful and significant biblical names which seemed to have permeated his very being and helped him to navigate his course in life.
JOSEPH-meaning "God will add", and the favors and benefits upon his life is unquestionable.
NATHANIEL-meaning "Gift of God", and what better gift could God have than a son who loved and cared for his parents, his siblings and his children until the time of death. His family meant the world to him.
He was the father of two children – Barbara and Colin-his precious gems. Sadly, he was predeceased by Colin who ever lived in the heart of his father.
Shortly after completing his schooling he migrated to the United States in the 1960s and contributed significantly to the Jamaican Farm Workers Program. He knew however though that there was more to be added, so he later migrated to the United Kingdon and settled in Wembley, Middlesex where he lived for 17 years and worked as a plasterer. Still there was more to be added so he came back to the United States in 1979 where he started his own painting business, Joe Williams Painting which he owned and operated for over 40 years. He was well known for his excellent work and his meticulous attention to detail. Many stories were told and jokes shared between Uncle Joe and his painting team and they seemed to all have enjoyed the company of each other on those job assignments.
Uncle Joe was a family man. He shared in his house duties. He planted vegetable garden and took pride in reaping the harvest. He also enjoyed "cook-outs" and was very much involved in it.
Uncle Joe know how to work and he knew how to play as well. He was an avid boxing and wrestling fan and could not miss a Monday night wrestling or a Friday night smack down (wrestling). He was always calling someone to remind them of special pay-per view events. He took pride in the vehicle he drove. His VW car "Betsy" became his antique car always on display in his driveway. Even his business truck looked good and bore the look of a well organized and seasoned business man and he had his business card to be sure.
Talking about a good host. That was Uncle Joe. If you were a visitor to his house, be sure you would feel welcomed, be sure you would be taken care of, he is going to take you to Red Lobster or some other top of the line restaurant. He lived the motto "Only the best is good enough."
So much more could be said about this gentle giant but time will not permit so we conclude by saying:
"Gone from our sight but not from our hearts."
In addition to his beloved wife Helene, he leaves to mourn his passing a daughter, Barbara Findlay and her husband Ransford Findlay, of Hartford four grandchildren, Nicole Hawes, Darion Findlay and Amanda Williams all of Hartford, and Joel Williams of Waterbury, a step-son Colin Atkins and his wife Nicole of Hartford; a stepdaughter, Andrean Brown and her husband Francis Cowie-Rowley of Windsor, a brother Lawrence Williams and his wife Shiela of Bloomfield, a sister Sybil Tyrell of Bloomfield; step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Colin Williams; a sister Delva Hall and a brother Lloyd Williams.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 9-10 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service at 10:00 a.m. at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Road, Windsor. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family has entrusted the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home with the arrangements.
