Kenneth Mars Obituary

Kenneth Nathaniel Mars born in Vergenoegen, East Bank Esseqiubo, Guyana, on March 17, 1944, to Ursula Lewis and Nathaniel Mars. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings. Although Kenneth was born in Vergenoegen, he later moved to Kitty where he met his wife Paulette and had five beautiful children: Deborah, Julian, Kim, Andrew, and Mark. Kenneth was well known in Kitty for helping in the neighborhood with masonry and carpentry work. He also built tombs for local residents. Kenneth worked for the Guyana School of Agriculture and the Guyana Water Authority for many years as a skilled contractor. Fishing at the local seawall in Kitty was something he enjoyed, catching shrimp, fish and crabs. Kenneth moved to the US and lived with his daughter and her family on Long Island, NY. He quickly made friends with many people, speaking with the local postman and sanitation workers regularly. After a few years, Kenneth moved to Connecticut where he settled with his four other children, many grandchildren and other family members. In Connecticut, Kenneth spent most of his time planting. He had a love for gardening, many say he had a green-thumb. Sharing his home-grown produce with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and just about all outdoor activities. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and listening to loud music from his favorite artists. He often enjoyed a Bacardi and water, a "finey" as he would say. Later in life, as his mobility decreased, he prioritized traveling locally on his electric scooter. On a nice day, you could find Kenneth rolling through the neighborhood, visiting friends, family and shopping in local stores. Kenneth was called home on February 27, 2025. He is survived by his former wife and five children. He had twenty grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a godchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Kenneth will be dearly missed – may he rest in peace. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 12-1:00 pm, with the Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Kenneth, please visit our floral store.
