Larry Atwood Obituary

Larry B. Atwood, 73, of Broad Brook, loving husband of 19 years to Barbara (Kingsmore) Atwood, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 7, 2025. He was born on February 15, 1952, in Hartford, one of ten children to the late Edwards and Barbara (Stengle) Atwood. Larry was raised in East Hartford, attended local schools and was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1971. Following high school, Larry began employment as an oil burner technician and spent over 20 years at Mitchell Fuel. He continued working with his own business until his retirement in 2023. He obtained his S1 Contractor License while working in HVAC. Larry was a master of all trades, a true millwright. He was very good with his hands and was very knowledgeable in many different areas. His wisdom and know-how was valued and appreciated by many family members, neighbors, and friends. He enjoyed completing home improvements, woodworking projects, general carpentry, and any HVAC projects to name a few. When not assisting with projects, Larry enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, as well as cheering on his favorite team, the New York Yankees. In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his three children, Christopher Atwood and his spouse Michelle Krampitz of East Hartford, Daniel Atwood and his spouse David Sauer of San Diego, CA, and Stacey Christian and her spouse John of Farmington; his five grandchildren, Tyler & Victoria Atwood, and Haley, Riley & Abigail Christian; his step-son, Erik Dickison and his spouse Jodie Vogt of East Hartford; his eight siblings; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 1-3 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor.
