Linnett Allen Obituary

Linnett (Howell) Allen, 88, of Manchester, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Linnett was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, on February 17, 1937, daughter of the late Doris Mullings and Mathew Howell, and attended Thompsontown School in Clarendon's Blackwoods parish. She later attended a business trade school in Kingston, Jamaica, and worked as a seamstress and at a live performance hall and club. In 1970, Linnett moved from Jamaica to Baltimore, MD to pursue opportunities for herself and her four-year-old daughter, Grace. Linnett began work in private home domestic service, but shortly after, took a job at Mt. Sinai Hospital in the Dietary Department. In 1974, Linnett, with her daughter and newborn son, Mark, moved to Hartford, CT, and was employed at Hartford Hospital in the Central Supply Department. A hard worker, Linnett was quickly promoted to a supervisor. A few years later, she transferred to the hospital's Laundry Department as an Assistant Manager, retiring after many years of service. Linnett was recognized by her staff for her kind and respectful manner of leadership. Throughout her life, Linnett devoutly attended church. She was a member of Ebenezer Temple in Hartford and was most recently a longtime member of Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Windsor, where she was ordained as a Deaconess, an honor she was extremely proud of. She also served on the Hospitality committee and as an office assistant for former pastor, Jeffrey Hill, and enjoyed preparing and serving meals at church events. Linnett was a role model for many. Mild-mannered, shy, and soft-spoken, she carried herself with elegance, class, and quiet dignity. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, often giving counsel into their adult lives. Linnett's hobbies were cooking her signature West Indian foods for others, caring for her grandchildren, playing scrabble and dominoes, gardening, periodic bus trips to Foxwoods Casino, and having visits with extended family and friends. She leaves to cherish memories of her, daughter, Grace Clark and her husband, Maurice Clark, Sr. of Manchester; son, Mark Allen and his wife, Margarita Allen, of Manchester; granddaughters, Mariah Grace Allen of Hartford, Camiryn Dorlinn Simpson of Long Island, NY, and Chanler Allen of California; grandsons, Cashan Simpson of Manchester, and Maurice Clark, Jr. of Springfield, MA; great grandchildren, Mikaylah, Maleah, and Mylannie Phipps of Hartford; loving friends, Carmen Borros, Lorraine Nahabedian, Jennifer Pitter, Jackie Germaine, and Margaret Peters; extended family who called her "mom" or "grandma"; and special friends. In honor of Linnett's memory, family and friends are encouraged to give service or donations to breast cancer awareness and the Myeloma Association. Her family will receive friends on Monday, August 25, 2025, 10-11 a.m., with a Celebration of Life, 11 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Road, Windsor. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
