Lorraine Hobby Obituary

Lorraine Constance Hobby, 92 years old, departed her walk of life and entered eternal rest on Sunday evening, August 24, 2025, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut. She was born on May 17, 1933, in New Haven, CT, to the late Paul Wadsworth Dolphin, Sr. and Hannah Elizabeth Hawley. She was the seventh of seven children of that blessed union. Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Author Gordon Hobby, affectionately known as (Micky), and several nieces and nephews. Lorraine attended the Connecticut Public Schools system. In the late 1960's in Connecticut she had been employed as a home care aide and retired in the early 1990's. She was also an avid supporter of the Black Panther Movement. She was a humanitarian that loved people and animals. She advocated for women's social issues and other rights. She also had a witty sense of humor with quick, amusing comebacks that had you laughing. Lorraine enjoyed singing and dancing at various venues in New Haven and would also travel to New York and Massachusetts scene. She had an extensive music collection featuring legendary artists, Aretha Franklin, Chuck Berry, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Domino, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and her favorite group (The Five Satins) from her hometown New Haven, CT. In Lorraine's younger years, she enjoyed fashion and fast cars. Lorraine made a conscious effort to embrace her Indian heritage from the maternal Hawley side of her family by celebrating the culture, customs, and history. Lorraine is survived by seven nieces, Gretchen Dolphin, Hadiyah F. Salaam, Janette Griffin, Linda D. Dolphin, Paula C. Dolphin, Sherry Ann Finch, and Tonette Finch Jackson; and six nephews, Andre Finch, Arnold Dolphin, Jr., Danny G. Dolphin, Sr., Gary M. Dolphin, Sr., Iverson Andrews, Jr., and William (Billie) Dolphin, Jr. She was preceded by brothers, Paul Wadsworth Dolphin, Jr., Arnold Mensley Dolphin, Sr., William Edward Dolphin, Sr., and Hurlbert George Dolphin, Sr.; and sisters, Fraulein Marietta Dolphin and Mary Ann Andrews. Notes From Aunt Lorraine: Thank you to my nephew Danny when times were hard, he came through and saw what needed to be done and took care of the matter. Thank you to my nephew Gary and his wife Cynthia, for spending time and seeing about my wellbeing. Special thanks to my three favorite nieces, Gretchen, Linda and Paula Dolphin, and great niece Anita Little who took time out of their busy schedules to visit, took me grocery shopping, and doctors' appointments. I want to give a very special thanks to my lifelong childhood friend Melzetta Reed. We laughed at good times and cried and consoled each other in those difficult times. Your constant, enduring presence was appreciated. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Lorraine C. Hobby, please visit our floral store.
