Mark O'Connell Obituary

Mark O'Connell, 67 of East Haven, passed away June 6, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Husband of 24 years to Sharon Amendola O'Connell, brother of Michael O'Connell of Clinton, LA. Father to Kristen Spivey (Rick) of East Haven and Stephen Cibulas, Jr of New Haven. Grandfather (Poppa) to his one and only granddaughter Alexis (Lexi) Rose Cibulas. His pride and joy that he called his "Miracle" for saving him in 2009 from his kidney failure. He is survived by many cousins and friends. Friends like Walter Johnson from childhood and his best neighbor Kevin Dennis. To many friends to mention. Mark was born at Grace New Haven Hospital on October 17, 1957, son of the late Ralph and Doris Popolizio O'Connell. Graduated from Morgan High School in Clinton, CT in 1975. He worked at Lasercut Inc in North Branford and Branford as the VP/Service Manager from 1985 to 2009 and was a consultant for them until 2013 when they closed their doors. Mark was an Avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. His true passion was his hobbies of RC planes, helicopters, and boats. He started building and flying control line model planes in 1970 in Clinton, CT. He started RC in 1972 when he went to Branford Hobbies and fell in love with that. Mark belonged to 3 flying clubs, the RC Propbusters, Black Sheep Squadron and East Coast Swamp Flyers. Mark loved Oldsmobiles and bought his first model a 1967 Olds 442 in 1975 and his final 72 Olds 442 around the 90's when he went out on a job site in California and found it out there and the rest was history. He loved that car. He loved his motorcycle which was his special bike his mighty 1980 Honda CBX. East Haven Memorial funeral home is entrusted with his arrangements. There are no services per Mark's wish.
