Martin DeGennaro Obituary

Entered eternal rest, this 16th day of July 2025, Martin Joseph DeGennaro. Martin was born to Sam DeGennaro and Josephine (Cocco) DeGennaro on October 3, 1931 in New Haven before the family settled in West Haven. Martin was a graduate of the Hopkins Grammar School class of 1949 and Dartmouth College in 1953. Predeceased by his oldest son Billy, he leaves behind his sister Deanna Kristopeit, four children Ann, Sam (Laura), Helen and Ted (Yanela), five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, dozens of nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Charlie. Embarking on a long and successful career as a stockbroker by knocking on the doors of local businesses, Martin fostered long-standing relationships and friendships that lasted for decades. He was a valued member of several area clubs and associations including the Quinnipiac Club, the New Haven Lawn Club and the Dartmouth Club of New Haven. He also served as lectern for Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge. Martin enjoyed playing tennis, squash and the piano, and had great compassion for animals. The DeGennaro family would like to thank the incredible support given by the staff at Elim Park of Cheshire, and Silah Larson specifically for her compassion and energetic care. The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. of New Haven is in care of all arrangements. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 6:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions to be sent to the William L. DeGennaro/Kristin Taurchini Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Hopkins School, 986 Forest Road, New Haven CT 06515, or your local ASPCA chapter.
