Mary Rogers Obituary

Mary Louise "Mary Lou" Stevenson Rogers, 81 of Suffield, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 9th, 2025, with her son at her side. She was born December 6,1943, in Putnam CT, a daughter of the late Virginia and Roscoe Stevenson. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Roy Rogers, and her brother Roscoe Stevenson. Mary was very proud of her love of learning. She was valedictorian of Woodstock class of 61, and received a BA and MA from UCONN. Which she used for a 35 year career as a teacher in East Granby, CT . She loved teaching reading and she was very proud that her classroom library rivaled the school library. She had a love for a special interests. They varied greatly but she was always all in. Some examples are being an interpreter at old Sturbridge Village, love of everything penguins, being with and partying with the East Granby Players, planning events for the Red Hat Society, Celtic Thunder band, to her most recent finding the perfect gift for her love ones. Mary Lou was a lifelong Congregational member from her start at First Congregational church on Woodstock to her current membership at Feeding Hills Cong. In Feeding Hills MA. Mary Lou is survived by her son Timothy Jon Rogers and his wife Amanda and their three children Sofia, Ella and James. Mary Lou was blessed to be able to stay in her home because of the care of her son. She is also survived by her brother G. Tod Stevenson and sisters-in-law, Jane Simpson and Alfreda Stevenson and beloved nephews and nieces. Mary Lou was blessed with many friends along the way, but one stands above the rest her through it all best friend, John Goekler. Her family will receive friends on Monday, September 15, 2025 from 5:30-7:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N., Suffield. Burial will be in Woodstock Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers Mary Lou's Family would like contributions to her grandchildren education fund. One last gift from Grandma Lou. Donations can be made to Timothy Rogers.
