Mildred E. Layman

Mildred E. "Miki/Millie" Layman, age 101, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the Connecticut Baptist Home. For 65 years, she was the loving wife of the late Edward K. Layman. Born and raised in Meriden, the youngest of 11 children, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Korzen Cihowski, emigrants of Poland. Millie worked for International Silver and later at Star's Department Store. She was an exceptional seamstress and a wonderful baker. Her lemon meringue pies and warm apple turnovers were legendary. Following her husband's passing, Millie continued to live an independent life until the age of 98. She was an avid player of Scrabble, Quiddler, word jumbles, cryptograms and other word games. She approached every game with fierce determination - beware, she took no prisoners! Millie is survived by her children, Maureen Heilman and her husband James, and James Layman and his wife Emily, all of Wallingford; her grandchildren, James E. Heilman and his wife Alicja of Wallingford and Katherine E. and her husband William Ansalvish Jr. of Sharpsburg, MD; and several nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by her 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Millie's family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street, Ext., Wallingford, on Thursday October 9th from 9:00 – 10:30am. A funeral service will then commence at the funeral home at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
