Nicholas Kupec Obituary
Nicholas "Nick" John Kupec, of Waterford, CT, formerly of North Haven, CT, husband of Kristy (Hunter) Kupec, died in a tragic accident September 5, 2025. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, grandson, godparent, and friend.
Nick was the cherished son of Carol Codeanne Teixeira (Michael), and Nicholas I. Kupec (Judy). Born in Milford, CT on March 5, 1986, he graduated from North Haven High School in 2005, where he was a member of the golf team, and a junior member of the North Haven Volunteer Fire Department, Company 2.
During high school, Nick worked at Big Y, which impacted his life when he met one of his closest friends, Brian, beginning their "bromance." In 2007, Nick was hired by Metro North Railroad where he was a member of the Transport Workers Union, acting as their recording secretary. At Metro North, Nick met so many brothers and sisters for life, like Guy and Tony.
Nick enjoyed golfing, attending or watching any kind of sporting event, his NY Yankees, Rangers, and Giants teams, Bridgeport Bluefish, his fantasy sports leagues, racing, WWE with his cousin Matt, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He had a heart of pure gold, sense of humor unlike no other, and was instantly looking up a question that someone just asked out loud so he could be the first to answer. If you said you needed something, watch out because it would probably arrive the next day shipped by Amazon, and without him saying a word.
He was known as many things to many people, but especially "Kupec", or, "Metro," by some of his oldest friends-turned-family, and "my Nick" by his 3-year-old niece, Harper. Nick was someone who everyone welcomed as though he were family, especially by the Logan's, and his "brother-from-another-mother," Brendan.
Nick admittedly gave up hope on love until he met the love of his life, Kristy. He loved her pets as his own and expanded on that together to grow their house to three dogs and two cats (Tink, Cici, Buddy, Zoe, and Ace). Nick shared a side of himself very few saw, which included proposing to Kristy with a ring-pop. 2023 was a big year for his and Kristy's wedding, honeymoon in Niagara Falls, and becoming a homeowner. He was so excited about living in the type of neighborhood he grew up in, jam packed with trick-or-treaters and kids riding their bikes. During mundane nights at home, Nick would pretend not to be interested in TV shows like, "Love is Blind," but instantly was the first to say, "one more episode," when there was a cliffhanger that wouldn't allow him to sleep. Nick was excited for the upcoming plans he and Kristy shared to celebrate their 40th birthdays, traveling, and making plans to start a family.
Nick was very close with his family, leaving behind his devoted sister Lauren Kupec Lilien (Robert), his adoring niece and nephew, Harper Elizabeth and Robert Jack Lilien, and his feline "brother," Harry. Also survived by his stepsister, Alexis Teixeira (Phil), his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Codeanne, aunts Sharon Codeanne, Nancy Degnan, Ellen Whalen, and Eileen Codeanne, uncles John Codeanne and Carlos Candal, and cousins Matthew Degnan, Emily, Ali and Ethan Candal, Lani and Colin Codeanne, Jennie Bourque (Andy), and Katie Whalen (Dave). His mother-in-law, Debbie Wheeler, sister-in-law Katie Hunter Brai (DJ), and nephews, Hunter and Logan Brai also survive him, along with extended family and friends. Nick was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John Codeanne, paternal grandparents, Nicholas and Margaret Kupec, and uncle, Edward Degnan.
He is deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Thank you to all first responders, especially Amy.
