Nicholas M. Richards

Nicholas M. Richards, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at HavenCare at Valerie Manor in Torrington. He was the devoted husband of Joan F. (Scarpati) Richards. Born in Waterbury on August 25, 1940, Nick was the son of the late Charles M. and Adele (Mikaitis) Richards. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and was a proud U.S. Navy veteran having served on the USS Mispillion Oil Tanker during the Vietnam Era. Nick worked as a mail carrier for the U.S.P.S. for over 33 years. Nick had a passion for firetrucks and had an extensive collection. He enjoyed watching old westerns, football and baseball games, and the UCONN Men's and Women's Basketball teams. Nick could always be found outside, tending to his vegetable garden and taking care of his yard. Above all, Nick was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was happiest when spending time with his family. In addition to Joan, his wife of 59 years, Nick is survived by his sons Nicholas C. Richards of Harwinton and Paul W. Richards of Watertown and his beloved grandchildren Lauren Richards and her husband Brendan Read, Madison Richards, Paige Richards, and Skyler Richards. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Shirley Iava. All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
