Oliver Wint Obituary
Oliver O'Connor Wint, 72, of Hamden, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 5, 2025, just days before his 73rd birthday on October 15th.
Born in Jamaica, Oliver came to New York in his thirties, where he met his wife and built a life rooted in love, hard work, and perseverance. After many years in New York, he and his wife of over forty years moved to Hamden upon his retirement to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters, who brought them endless joy.
Oliver was a gentle soul known for his kind heart. He had the best smile. Even through chemotherapy, he remained cheerful and full of gratitude. A true "Mr. Fix It," he loved working on his house and cars, always believing that anything could be repaired or made better with his hands. He taught his daughters invaluable lessons about patience, creativity, and doing hard work with a smile.
He had a full and remarkable life, accomplishing many things and collecting countless stories along the way. You could talk to him about anything, and he always knew a little about everything. Over the years, he wore many hats: he once delivered a baby, managed a sugar cane field, worked on a farm, and took on many other jobs to provide for his family which he exceeded.
He loved martial arts movies-especially those starring Michael Jai White- as well as oldies music by Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley and Otis Redding. He also enjoyed the Food Network, old westerns, sci-fi shows, and listening to audiobooks.
He is survived by his devoted wife Laurice, and his beloved daughters Olivia Brown of Hanover, MD, Ashley (Marc) Johnson of Hamden and Natasha Samuda of Katy, TX, and three cherished granddaughters. He is also survived by four sisters, Georgia and Erica Wint of Spanish Town, Jamaica, and Virginia and Veronica Wint of New Jersey, eight brothers, Danny Wint of New York City, Devon Wint of Arizona, Glen and Shineye Wint of Spanish Town, Jimmy Wint of Florida, and Leon, Raymond and Ranford Wint. He was predeceased by his brother Christopher Wint.
Oliver will be remembered for his laughter, ingenuity, and the love he gave so freely. He was rich in love, surrounded by family who adored him, and he gave that love back in abundance. He will be deeply missed. This loss would be easy if he wasn't such a good dad-but he was a great dad. During his final days on home hospice, his family spent eighteen precious days together under one roof-and unforgettable sleepover filled with laughter, stories, love, and of course tears. It was just never going to be enough time with him, but his family is deeply grateful for the time they had.
Funeral services for Oliver are private, and have been entrusted to Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com.
