Peter J. Acampora

Peter J. Acampora of New Haven died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital (St. Raphael Campus) on May 7, 2025. He leaves two brothers, Alphonse A. Acampora, and Attorney John A. Acampora (Denise), a Nephew John Michael Acampora (Christa), a Niece Maria Acampora, a Great Nephew Michael J. Acampora, and a Great Niece Emma Acampora. Peter was born in New Haven on November 6, 1931, to the late John H. Acampora and Mary J. Acampora (Speringo.) He was a long­time Officer of John's Quality Package Stores, Inc. in New Haven until his retirement. Peter enjoyed boating with the family every Sunday, first as a member of the Waucoma Yacht Club with the "Sea Fever," and then at Bruce and Johnson's Marina, AA Dock, with "The Wanderer." His life was a testament to hard work and deep dedication to his family. A little-known accomplishment was Peter's proficient talent to play the accordion. He looked forward to family gatherings at every holiday and every family celebration. Growing up in Wooster Square (Hamilton St.), Peter forged close personal relationships within the community, including the members of the Meteors Club. Peter was a great person and an exceptional Son, Brother and Uncle. We would like to extend our appreciation to Yale-New Haven Hospital (St. Raphael Campus) staff, especially the Intensive Care Unit, for their extraordinary efforts extended to Peter, as well as to the Hospice Unit within St. Raphael's. His funeral will leave from the IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME INC. Monday morning, May 19th, at 9:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Michael's Church, 29 Wooster Place at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave., West Haven. Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Sunday, May 18th from 3 :00 PM to 7 :00 PM at IOVANNE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 11 Wooster Place, New Haven.
