Peter DeCaprio Obituary
Peter Anthony DeCaprio Sr., of Lebanon, CT, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, after a brief illness. Peter was born on June 29, 1932, in East Haven, CT, the son of the late Antonio and Assunta (Losio) DeCaprio.
He had a long career in banking, working as a loan officer and in managerial positions at two banks in the New Haven area. After relocating from Connecticut to Palm Beach, Florida, he spent the last 19 years of his career at First Choice Credit Union, retiring from there. In 2008, Peter and his wife moved back to Connecticut to live with his son in Lebanon. Alongside his professional life, Peter served in the United States Army. He was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Following active duty, he continued to serve in the Connecticut National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a Sergeant Major (E-9) in June 1992 after completing 43 years of military service. Throughout his military career, Peter received numerous awards and decorations, including the 20-Year Service Medal from the State of Connecticut, the Germany Occupation Medal, the European Theater Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and many others.
Peter was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rita Teresa DeCaprio, whom he has sorely missed for the past 15 years, and by his son, Peter A. DeCaprio Jr. He is survived by his 105-year-old sister, Josephine Farricielli of Branford, CT. He is also survived by his son, Mark P. DeCaprio and his wife Cathryn of Lebanon, CT, and his youngest son, Matthew F. DeCaprio and his wife Brenda of Ellenboro, North Carolina. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Peter was also predeceased by his brothers: John DeCaprio, Modestino (Albert) DeCaprio, Louis DeCaprio, Phillip DeCaprio, Pasquale DeCaprio, Nicholas DeCaprio, and Adolf DeCaprio; and by his sisters: Raffaella DeCaprio, Laura (DeCaprio) Esposito, and Theresa Guglielmi.
Peter's family will receive guests at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 5 to 7 PM . At the conclusion of visitation, friends and family are invited to a time of special music and sharing from 7 to 7:45 PM. A private burial will follow at Saint Lawrence Cemetery in New Haven.
