Peter Elinsky

Peter Elinsky, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025 in Virginia. He was 81 years old.

Peter is survived by the love of his life, Elaine (Lainie), and their two daughters Lauren, married to Bob Meek, and Rachel, married to Dan Ambrosio. Peter was a proud and loving grandfather to Noah and Ari Ambrosio, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Lunitz. He is remembered with love by many friends, colleagues, and former students.

Peter was born on December 5, 1943 in West Hartford, Connecticut to Louis and Ruth Elinsky. He earned his undergraduate degree from University of Connecticut; a J.D. degree from Suffolk University School of Law, Cum Laude; and LL.M. degree from Boston University School of Law. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves

Peter began his professional career at Peat Marwick in Boston, which later became KPMG, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He moved to Virginia to lead the Washington D.C. Tax Practice, ultimately becoming Senior Partner and serving on the firm's Board of Directors

After his retirement, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center inspiring countless students and was celebrated with the Charles Fahy Distinguished Adjunct Professor Award in 2006-2007. During his retirement, he also spent his time volunteering at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and tutored elementary school kids

He was an avid cyclist and completed several Century rides and was a long-standing member and Treasurer of Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church.

A beloved family friend once said of Peter: Biggest Hugs. Best Smile. Worst Jokes.

He will be deeply missed.

Peter will be laid to rest in Avon, Connecticut this week in a private graveside ceremony. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 10 at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary at Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, Virginia, where family, friends, and colleagues will gather to honor his life and legacy. The service will also be live-streamed on the Temple Rodef Shalom website at that time, and can be viewed here.
