Mary Elinsky Obituary

Mary Angline Elinsky (nee Lagnese), 91, passed into eternal life on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at HCA Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida.

She was born on Oct 27th, 1932, in Rankin, Pennsylvania to Mary Antonette Lagnese (nee DiAna) and John Lagnese.

Mary and her loving husband Joe moved to Cleveland, Ohio where they raised their 5 children and were very involved in the St. Rose of Lima parish and St. Edward High School communities. They traveled back to Pittsburgh often to visit family and extended relatives. The past 25 years she lived in Port Charlotte, Florida with her husband Joe and made many friendships at the Italian clubs where she belonged and the Elks and Moose lodges.

Mary made wonderful friendships everywhere she went and ruled with a wooden spoon by sharing her great capacity for love, especially through the meals she would make for family and friends. Every occasion she would make wonderful meals however Easter and Christmas she gathered her family to prepare special meals and give thanks and praise to our Heavenly God. A mother and grandmother; she was a very caring and loving matriarch with a spontaneous, easy, and flexible style for life. She enjoyed traveling and loved simple things.

In her last years she enjoyed watching the birds and animals and feeding and encouraging them to come to her back patio where she would sit and enjoy the day gratefully with family and friends. She will always be loved, cherished, and missed greatly by all who loved and knew her, and she wanted us all to know she will be watching us!

She was the wife of Joseph Theodore Elinsky(deceased) of 58 years. Mother of five children, Joseph P. (Sheryl Doyle) Elinsky, Michael A. Elinsky (son Aiden), John A. Elinsky (children Jessica, Johnny), Gina M. (Michael D. Trebilcock) Elinsky (children: Alyssa, Michael, Christian) and Gregory N. (Renee M. Aunt Mary was more than just my very special aunt. She was the true matriarch of the Elinsky family. Not only was she a loving, caring mother to her five children, she was truly the one in the family that cared for and about ALL of the family.
Aunt Mary never knew a stranger. Whether you belonged to the Elinsky family or not, their home was always open. If you needed a place to live, or a good meal, gas money, or just someone to share a difficult situation with, she was always there to provide the support, and most of all, the love that you needed.

The one thing that I will always will remember about her, in addition to what I´ve mentioned above, was that whenever she wanted your undivided attention, she would say "Hey" before she said your name. If she wanted Uncle Joe´s attention, you´d always hear "Hey, Joe....." It meant listen up, I´m about to tell you something you need to hear.

In 2 Timothy 4:8 Paul tells us, There is reserved for us the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to us... I have no doubt that Aunt Mary is wearing her crown right now for she was a faithful, loving servant of our Lord, Jesus, and a special angel to so many. I also have no doubt that she is still watching over us all, and when I hear that voice saying "Hey, LaVerne", you can be sure I´ll be looking up and listening.

We will miss you Aunt Mary. Rest now in His Loving Peace.

Marsha, her niece. Not first memory but... Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary were driving me back to Pittsburgh after a 2 week summer stay with them in Cleveland. I was about 7 and in the way back of the van the had at the time and was trying to sleep on the floor. There was a fly buzzing around my head so I grabbed one of Uncle Joe's endless folders of papers and smacked down on that fly. Aunt Mary heard it and thought the van had gotten a flat tire. Her arms went flailing and she was yelling at Joe to "Pull over! Pull over!!" He had nooo idea what she was yelling about. She finally said "When I tell you to pull over, you pull over!" I don't know if I ever got the courage to tell them about the fly. RIP my dear sweet Aunt Mary. You left a legacy of memories and love.
