Ronald Dougherty Obituary

Obituary of Ronald L. Dougherty It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald L. Dougherty, 83, who passed away on August 12, 2025. A lifelong Glastonbury resident, a graduate of Glastonbury High School, who also served his hometown community as a US postal carrier for 30 years of his life, after honorably serving our nation in the Vietnam War, Ron was a true hometown hero. Born June 26, 1941, to the late James L. Dougherty and Dorothy E. (Jones) Dougherty Bell, he was a devoted son to his mother, known to all who loved her as "Grandma Dot". His father died while he was young, and he embraced his step-dad, known to all as Brainerd Bell, his step-sister, Shirley Ann (Petow) Bell, and the extended Bell/Petow family, who embraced him lovingly, as "Uncle Ron". He is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Ron enjoyed doing puzzles by candlelight, and especially found peace and tranquility at his cottage on Columbia Lake. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug 16, 2025 at 11am in Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave, Glastonbury. Burial with military honors will follow in Neipsic Cemetery, Glastonbury. Visitation will be from 10am to 11am on Saturday, prior to the service. We will host a luncheon following the Burial at Buckingham Congregational Church; 16 Cricket Lane; Glastonbury.

Uncle Ron also loved books, his favorite author was Edgar Allan Poe. He also loved the John Jakes series which I have also been reading for the last year or two. Rest in peace Uncle Ron..... Love Sherry
