Ronald Wallin, Sr. Tribute Ronald C. Wallin, Sr., 88, of Brookfield, passed away on November 4, 2024, at Danbury Hospital; his health quickly declining since the passing of his wife, Rosy, on August 2, 2024. They hated getting old, and especially hated being apart, so it seems fitting that his passing was just in time for what would have been their 66th wedding anniversary.
Ronald Charles Wallin was born on April 26th, 1936, the second son of Marion Slee and Wesley Wallin, Sr. Raised in Fairfield, Ron attended Roger Ludlow High School while working alongside his father and brother in local, family-owned businesses. Learning carpentry and lawnmower repair, he especially enjoyed locksmithing and built a stellar reputation as the man willing to fix anything at anytime in the Fairfield/ Bridgeport area. Ron understood the importance of hard work, but he learned early on that the relationships built with customers were the cornerstone of success.
On November 8th, 1958, Ron married Rose Marie Ferarro; the feisty Italian with short dark hair. He had never met someone like her, and together they broke societal norms marrying outside of their ethnic and cultural backgrounds. They settled on Ruth St. in Bridgeports north end, and soon were a family of five. Sharing a zest for life, Ron and Rosy opened their first pool business in 1971 in Norwalk, later becoming Wallin Pool on Federal Rd. in Danbury. In 1973, they moved their family to Brookfield, and in 1983 moved out of the pool business and into their best venture yet: Cap City in Danbury.
Ron was a man of many talents; it is truly difficult to put him into words. First, his humor; a quick wit to stand-up comedy, his ability to recall jokes was second to none, and he loved to make people laugh. He was the funniest person ever, and never failed to bring a smile to those around him. His mind always going, he was an inventor at heart. A day at Cap City included time in the garage creating the perfect tools, making golf clubs for himself and others, and his Perfect-a-Putt, patented and sold in the 1990s. His innate problem-solving abilities, determination, and loyalty earned him the nickname Mighty Mouse; or as he loved to say, "Where there is a will, there is a Wallin!"
A man with many hobbies, his love of figure skating began in childhood, and resulted in offer from the Ice Capades in his teen years. While he turned down the offer, he continued to skate, spending years on the pond at his Brookfield house with his kids and later teaching his grandkids, making a single axle look easy well into his sixties. He enjoyed boating on Candlewood Lake, water and snow skiing, singing while playing the guitar he had a beautiful voice. He loved a good dinner out with family, Cabernet, and never ordered a pizza without adding, "thin crust, well-done,". In the 1980s, he and Rosy took up golf, and spent decades as members of Heritage Village Country Club in Southbury, as well as Kelley Greens and later Vanderbilt Country Club at their homes in Naples, Florida. Ron worked hard to live a good life and loved nothing more than sharing it with his family.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother, Wes Wallin, Ron is survived by his family: daughter Tammy Humphrey and son-in-law Kevin of Maryland; daughter Michele Wallin and partner Mick Deakin, and son Ron Wallin Jr., and daughter-in-law Gail all of Brookfield. Grandchildren Brittany Humphrey, Chelsea Gerundo (Tim), and Jack, Carly, and Luke Wallin. Greatgrandchildren Rowan, Theodore, Cole, and Juliette.
