Scott Brady Obituary

Scott M. Brady, 64, of Vernon, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, with his wife, Sandra (Coco) Brady, by his side. Born on April 21, 1961, Scott's parents, the late Harold and Elaine (Jordan) Brady, raised him in a full, loud, and loving home. Scott joined the City of Hartford Fire Department at age 25 and worked diligently for 25 years until he retired as a Deputy Chief in 2012. Recognizing his passion and professionalism, the Department asked him to return in 2015 as the interim Assistant Chief before elevating him to interim Chief. In retirement, Scott developed a burning interest in archaeology and became the heart and soul of the Connecticut archaeological community. In 2012, he began working with the Connecticut Office of State Archaeology, assisting three State Archaeologists over thirteen years. One of the highlights of his archaeological career included being part of the team that excavated the 12,700-year-old Brian D. Jones Paleoindian Site in Avon. On many summer days, he came home covered in dust, dirt, and a big smile. He loved to travel and had many adventures across the world. In 2024, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of visiting Egypt, where he and Sandra explored the pyramids and cruised the Nile River. When not traveling or digging, he was busy adoring his grandsons, who always greeted him with a whole-hearted "Hi Pop!" and delighted laughter. Aside from his wife Sandra, Scott leaves his children, Jordan Brady and his wife Mary Kate, Rachel Brady and her husband Peter Bard, and Benjamin Brady. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, George and Calvin Bard, his siblings, Colleen and William Santaniello, Erin and Jack Smith, William and Lisa Brady, and Matthew Brady and Gloria Thurman. He also leaves his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and his beloved and faithful dog Sadie. Friends and family may call on the Brady family on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road Wethersfield. All are welcome to a celebration of Scott's life which will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 12:00pm at the Irish American Home Society, 132 Commerce Street Glastonbury, CT. Scott's infectious smile, quick wit and skill with a trowel were unmatched. While Connecticut archaeology will not be the same without him, his endless enthusiasm and remarkable collections will be available for generations to learn from.

I was so saddened to receive the news that Scott had passed.
My heartfelt condolences to the Brady family.
I have so many fond memories working with Scott over many years.
He had the rare qualities to be liked and respected as a leader. A great role model for many at HFD and in life.
Rest in peace my friend.

I'll never forget the night before his wedding I slept over his apartment. I was his best man. He was so proud of his new waterbed. It felt like I was sleeping in a raft on the ocean, in rough seas. I somehow got wedged in the wood side panels and I do believe I was Scott's first rescue. I have always loved him, and he was the best man I ever knew. Thank you for the example you set for all of us.
