William Murdy Obituary

William D. Murdy Sr., 81, of Meriden, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of the late Linda Murdy and son of the late Joseph and Amy Murdy. Born in Keene, NH, on March 26, 1944, he resided in Meriden for most of his life. Mr. Murdy was the proud co-owner of Murdy & Sons Quality Home Builders & Construction. A devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bill was deeply engaged in his community. He served as Past Grand Knight of Council #2 Knights of Columbus, was a member and Past President of Meriden Lions Club, a member of the Meriden Elks Lodge #35, Chairman of the Light the Flag Committee, and President of the Board of Directors of The Bradley Home. Bill loved traveling the world but cherished spending time with his family above all. He is survived by his sons, James Murdy and his partner Heather Davis, and Dave Murdy and his wife Carmella; his daughters-in-law, Linda E. Murdy and Claude Murdy; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Bethany, Samuel, Mark, Thomas, Lilliana, and Matthew; his sister, Rose Sobol, and her husband Harold; his sister, Ingrid Murdy; his brothers, William Sherman and his wife Sandra, Bobby Dumas, and Leo Dumas; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, William D. Murdy Jr.; his brothers, Joe and John Murdy; his sister, Sylvia Benson; and his partner, Ginger Godley Murdy. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, CT 06450. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish, Mt. Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Avenue, Meriden, CT 06451. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Entombment will follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions in William's memory may be made to The Bradley Home 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451. For online condolences, please visit www.jferryfh.com.
