Darrell Miller Obituary

Darrell "Butch" Miller, 77, of Fort Madison, died Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Bickford of Burlington in Burlington, IA. Born September 17, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Leonard and Bernice Scherer Miller. On July 20th, 1968 he married Annette Pranger. They later divorced. Butch was a hard worker and a very motivated person. He worked as a farmer and independent truck driver. He was always on the move and did not want to "burn daylight". He also served on the Union Township board, the Rock Spring Cemetery board, and was a Quad Township Trustee with the West Burlington Fire Department in the late 90's. Butch loved to give people a hard time but always with a smile on his face. He loved his Farmall tractors. He would take his kids down to the tracks to watch the freight trains roll by. He especially enjoyed hunting and the stillness and beauty of nature during the autumn mornings. Butch was a traveler and loved seeing the country. Aside from trucking, he would take his family to Hawaii, and all over the continental United States to show them the majesty of America. Moreover, Butch loved his family. His love of life and kindness will be deeply missed, but his favorite saying will stay close in the hearts of those who loved him - "Hey lady, keep smiling". Survivors include his children, Kate Gustafson, Loretta (Brian) Thompson, and Rob (Patti) Miller; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Tony) Brobston, Shayla (Josh Allen) Gustafson, Markita (Tyler) Currie, Andrew (Melissa) Currie, Rhiannon (Caleb) Freeman, Mylee Miller, Halee Miller; great grandchildren Sophy, Athena, Jaya, Jade, and one on the way; sister, Myrna (Charles) Mehring; niece, Monica, nephew, John; and ex-wife Annette. Sadly, Butch was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bernice and Leonard. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Family to receive guests for visitation on Saturday, July 12th, 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at Prugh's Chapel downtown, 317 N 4th St., Burlington. The memorial service for Butch will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Prugh's Chapel downtown, 317 N 4th St., Burlington, with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating.
