Janet S. Bond, 72, of Blandinsville, Illinois, passed away at 11:23 PM Wednesday December 11, 2024 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
She was born July 5, 1952 in Macomb, Illinois to Dennis and Velma May (Norris) Settles.
She is survived by her children, Heather Levita (Eric Levita) of Lucas, Texas, Erin Kempker of Springfield, Illinois, T.J. Bond of Blandinsville, Illinois; 4 grandchildren, Rylan Jackson, Marcus Levita, Ayven Kempker, Bryce Kempker; brothers, Randall Settles of Plymouth, Illinois and Ryan Settles of Bowen, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Julia Gossage.
Born in Macomb, Janet lived in several towns and cities including Moline, Illinois where she ran a home daycare, Forsyth, Missouri where she managed the Canyon View Motel and Lutz, Florida where she worked for GTE before returning to Illinois and transferring to GTE in Macomb. Here she met some of her lifelong friends.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education in 2005. Janet retired from Western Illinois University where she worked for many years at the Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood Education before retiring. The amazing homemade candy she brought to the Christmas parties is still talked about.
Janet loved Disney. This was her happy place. Walking down Main Street at Magic Kingdom and taking in the sights and smells brought her so much joy. She rode all the rides with every one of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed planning Disney trips for friends and family and visited Disneyland and Walt Disney World at least 20 times.
Janet was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and cherished friend, who left this world far too soon. She was a such a strong woman and always put the needs of her children, grandchildren and others before her own. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she is smiling down on all of us as we gather to remember her.
