Joan was born August 24, 1933, in Quincy, IL to Raymond and Jerry (Weber) Boge. She was married to Paul Herman Mast on January 31, 1953, at St. Peters in Quincy, IL. He survives. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joan's early years were marked by her education at Quincy High School, from which she graduated in 1951. She married the love of her life, Paul Herman Mast, on January 31, 1953, at St. Peters in Quincy.
The couple's journey together included a period of service to their country, with Paul enlisting in the United States Army and Joan supporting him as they moved to Ft. Sill in Oklahoma. Upon Paul's discharge, they returned to Quincy, where Joan became the Vice President of Master Foundry. For over 60 years, she dedicated herself to the business she and Paul ran together, her work ethic evident in her early arrivals and six-day work weeks.
Joan's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. She and Paul shared a love for animals, raising Tennessee Walking Horses and taking pride in their participation in horse shows in Shelbyville, TN. Their German Shepherd, Major, was a beloved member of their family, receiving the same level of care and affection as any of their cherished horses.
Known for her culinary skills, Joan was an excellent cook who took great joy in collecting recipe books and preparing delectable roasts and traditional German dishes, celebrating the couple's heritage. Sundays were her days of rest, and she spent them indulging in her creative side, making silk flower decorations that brought beauty into their home and the lives of those around her. Joan and Paul's love for travel and warmer climates saw them enjoying over two decades of retreats to their home in Palm Springs, CA, a place that provided them with respite and relaxation.
