Buck was born November 13, 1951, in Monroe City, MO to Lloyd Ray Shuck, Sr. and Iva Hoover Shuck. He was previously married to Paula Carwell Shuck in 1974, in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2025.
Survivors include his children, J.L. (Stacey) Shuck of Monroe City, MO, Jodi (Bob) Dillon of Hannibal, MO, Joseph Shuck, grandchildren, Johnathan Shuck, Olivia (Chandler) Purcell, Macy Shuck, Tegan Dillon, Tatum Dillon, nephew, Junior Baker of Shelbina, MO, and a niece, Lori (Jim) Quinn of London, KY.
Buck was preceded in death by his parents, former wife, sister, Betty Baker and a sister in infancy.
Buck, a nickname lovingly bestowed upon him by his father, became a term of endearment for all who knew him. To his adored grandchildren, he was known as Paw Paw Buck.
Buck's agricultural roots ran deep, as he dedicated his life to farming, tending to his Angus cows, hogs, and goats with the help of his trusted Case IH tractors. Buck was regular at the sale barn and always had a love for animals. Beyond farming, he was a keen participant in tractor pulls, both as a competitor and a spectator.
Buck's enjoyment for life was evident in his love for dance, often swaying to the tunes of Old Country and the twangs of Steel Guitar Music. Buck's passion for the outdoors was evident, as he found solace in driving his Dodge Flatbed pickup through the winding country roads, taking in the beauty of the world around him. Simple pleasures such as a trout fishing trip to Bennett Springs or evenings by the bonfire were a time of relaxation and enjoyment for Buck, sometimes with a refreshment in hand.
His laughter was constant, and his reputation as a jokester was well-earned. Buck's playful teasing and ornery nature were sources of endless entertainment. His signature phrase, "Oh Hell," was a humorous expression that captured his down-to-earth personality and his approach to life's surprises. His love for food was just as profound, with eating at the Rocket and his likeness for candy, cheeseburgers, or a Diet Pepsi.
Buck's memory will continue to inspire laughter and joy. Buck will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will forever be remembered in the hearts of his loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Junior Baker, Justin Baker, Jim Quinn, Troy Smith, Johnathan Shuck, and Chandler Purcell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe City Nutrition Center or the Monroe City Manor Care Center Auxiliary.
