Richard Bowman Obituary

Richard Wayne Bowman, 95, passed away May 30, 2025, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy, IL. He was the son of Charles and Ethel York Bowman. Richard and Jean Orene Lawrence were united in marriage on January 27, 1951. She survives. They celebrated their 74th anniversary this year. Richard was a graduate of Quincy High School and was employed by the Rock Island District Corps. of Engineers and Quincy Electric Wheel. He served in the United States Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.) for 2 years. He retired after 38 years with the CBQ Burlington Northern Railroad and part time farming, which he enjoyed. With grandsons assisting, Richard maintained the Payson New Cemetery for ten years. He previously did lawn service for our church camp. Richard volunteered at the Salvation Army, assisting with Christmas Red Kettle Collection and bell ringing. He also served on the Salvation Army Corp. Council and Emergency Disaster Team. While a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Richard was a Ruling Elder and served on Building and Grounds Committee, being chairman for four years. He also served on the church's Men's Ministry, assisting members in their homes. Richard was a member of Payson Lodge #379, the order of the Eastern Star, and the Quincy Consistory for over sixty years. He was also a member of the Ansar Temple of Springfield, IL. He was an active member of Adams County Old Tyme Association and enjoyed his toy pedal tractor collection. As he restored many, he enjoyed sharing them with grandsons. He placed "Best in Show" at the National Toy Show. Richard served as an Uncle Sams Representative at Good Samaritan Home of Quincy. He was a member of Admissions and Membership Committee and Building and Grounds Committee. As a resident of Quincy, Richard and Jean enjoyed being square dancing members of the Q-City Squares. His loving family includes his wife, Jean Bowman; two daughters, Janice Riley (Randall) and Cynde Blackwell (Dennis) all of Quincy; four grandsons, James Graham (Danielle), Michael Graham, Garrett Riley (Christina), and Daniel Riley (Liz); seven great-grandchildren, Carl Graham, Garrett Graham, Destiny Johnson, Elijah Riley, Lawrence Riley, Davis Riley, and Lewis Riley. Richard was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Patti Graham Reeves, and six siblings. A private funeral ceremony will be at Good Samaritan Home. Chaplain Josh Vahle will officiate. Burial will follow at Payson New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Home or Payson New Cemetery. To send flowers to the family of Richard, please visit our floral store.
