Ronald Becker Obituary

Ronald C. Becker, age 87, of Quincy, died on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 8:10 p.m. in Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL. Ron was born September 28, 1937 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Elmer Ludwig and Marcella Mae Mester Becker. On August 17, 1963 he married Alice G. Martin in Plainville Methodist Church. His loving wife of 62 years survives. Ron was a 1955 graduate of Quincy High School. He had been employed at Scudders Gale Grocer Company in the office and called on trade for 13 1/2 years. Then he went to work for Moorman Manufacturing Company for 28 1/2 years in the Sales Field Force and the Mintrate Production Department. Ron took early retirement from Micro-mix Drug and Quality Control Department in 1995. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed doing yard maintenance and trimming shrubs for friends and family, as well as maintaining his and Alice's vegetable and flower gardens. Ron and Alice also liked to spend time on the river or at Lake of the Ozarks, where they had a time share. For a number of years they spent their winters in Marco Island, FL They also enjoyed camping and traveling to attend their children's and grandchildren's activities. In 2003 they traveled to Germany. Ron served his country for six years in the Illinois National Guard. While serving in the 182th Ordinance Field Supply Company, his unit was activated to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO to replace a company sent to Berlin. During this year, Ron was named soldier of the month for Ft. Leonard Wood Post. Ron was an active member of Luther Memorial Church. For years he had served as usher and Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Property Committee, the Finance Team, and the Food Pantry. Ron was a member of Elks Lodge 100, Loyal Order of the Moose, UCT, Mississippi Valley Hunters and Fishermen, North Side Boat Club, and South Side Boat Club. In addition to his wife, survivors include three children: Lisa (Jim) Newman of Nashville, TN; Rhonda (Butch) Brinkman of Payson, IL; and Christopher Becker of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren: Sarah Newman of Nashville, TN, Mary Kate Newman of Dayton, OH; Noah (Lacey) Brinkman of Ballwin, MO, Samuel Brinkman of Payson, IL, Lauren Brinkman of Payson, IL, Natalie Becker of Portland, OR, and Nicolette Becker of Portland, OR; a great-grandson, Beckett Ronnie Brinkman of Ballwin, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: Evelyn Schmitt, Dolores Dasch, Norma Stone, and Genevieve Becker, in infancy. Visitation: 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Service: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Gosteli officiating. Burial: Quincy Memorial Park with military honors provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail. Memorials: Fishing for Freedom or Luther Memorial Church.
