Ronald Flanagan Obituary

Ronald Dean (Ron) Flanagan, 86, passed into his savior's arms on October 17, 2025. Ron was born July 28, 1939, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois to Alva and Mae Flanagan. He was joined in marriage to Nancy Lee Wendler on June 1, 1958 at the United Brethren Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. They celebrated 67 wonderful years together. All their married life they were inseparable. They lived in Herrin, Illinois and Clinton, Iowa before transferring with his job to Macomb in 1961. He began working at Publishers News as a return clerk and worked for that company all his working years. He became general manager at the Macomb branch and then co-owner. He retired after 34 years with the company. Ron enjoyed motorcycle riding in his younger years, fishing and camping at Spring Lake for many years with friends. He traveled to 49 states and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for yearly family vacations many times. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 Brothers, Clyde, Darmon, Gene, Jack, Richard all of Mt Vernon; 3 sisters, Gail Capps of Whiting, Indiana, Annabelle Cates and twin sister, Donna of Mt. Vernon. He is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Patton, son, Steve (Mary) Flanagan, both of Colchester, Illinois; 4 Grandchildren who lovingly named him "Poppy", Andy (Lisa) Patton of Macomb Illinois, Ashley (Bill) Parks, Stacie (Tyler) Havens both of Colchester, Illinois, and Kimberly Flanagan of New Jersey; 9 great grandchildren, Kelsie Parks, Wyatt Parks, Aidan Sullivan, Wyatt Patton, Will Patton, Ryder Parks, Maddox Havens, Amelia Havens, Adalynn Patton. He loved his family to the extreme. In 1969, he bought a Buick Riviera and still owned it. It was his "baby" and nurtured it for 56 years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday October 25, 2025 at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Melly Momo will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warriors Project.
