Daniel O'Brien Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Daniel Anthony O'Brien, a devoted husband, father, friend, and cherished member of our community, who left us too soon at the age of 51. Born in 1973, Dan lived a life full of dedication, service, and love. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, honorably discharged in 2000 as a Sergeant in Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines. His service to his country was a testament to his dedication, discipline, and sense of duty, qualities that carried through in every aspect of his life. For 30 years, Dan worked alongside his family in their business as a property manager and foreman, taking much pride in his work. Recently semi-retired, he looked forward to the next chapter of his life, where he could spend more time watching his children thrive as they pursued their passions in college and begin their new careers. He was most proud of his children, who he admired for the remarkable individuals they have become. Nothing brought him greater joy than seeing his kids succeed and grow, and he took immense pride in the watching them follow their passions. Dan was known to many as "Uncle Danny," a beloved figure at the local cheer gym where he spent countless hours supporting his wife and children in building something truly extraordinary. He played an integral role in helping create a space that became a second home for so many kids, where his generosity and unwavering support were always felt. His presence at the gym was marked by his contagious smile, his encouraging words, and his deep commitment to helping others achieve their dreams. Outside of the gym, Dan had a lifelong love for military history, aviation, and documentaries-interests that connected him to a world of stories, memories, and history that he cherished deeply. He was always eager to share his knowledge and passion with anyone who would listen, often spending hours discussing history and the heroes who shaped our world. He also loved every moment he spent with his dogs, most days taking them with him to the gym and Winnekinni Park. Dan was a man who lived to serve-whether helping friends and family, supporting his community, or building the next phase of his family's dream. His willingness to lend a hand, his ability to make others feel seen, and his ever-present smile are just a few of the qualities that will be missed most. He truly was a rock for all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness, hard work, and love will never be forgotten. Dan is survived by his loving wife, Christin; sons, Colum and Padraig and daughter, Mairead. He is the son of Patrick (deceased) and Catherine O'Brien of West Roxbury, MA; sisters, Kathleen O'Brien, Erin Akeroyd and Patricia Astorino. He is the son-in law to Stephen and Betsy Roderick; also survived by many nieces, nephews and wonderful family, and countless friends whose lives were better for having known him. His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched, in the stories he loved to share, and in the dreams he physically helped to create. The cheer gym will be planning a special memorial for Daniel with the grand opening of the new gym this Spring. Rest in peace, Daniel Anthony O'Brien. You will forever be loved, and forever missed. Celebration of Dan's Life will be held on Monday, March 17 in Driscoll Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Service with U.S. Marine Corps Honors at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider contrtibuting by mail to the Daniel O'Brien Children's Fund, c/o Haverhill Bank, 180 Merrimack Street, Haverhill, MA 01830 or at any Haverhill Bank branches.
