David Mitchell Obituary
David C. Mitchell, 89, of Atkinson, NH, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
David was born August 21, 1935, to Charles B. Mitchell and Elizabeth (Stewart) Mitchell of Lawrence. He is predeceased in death by his brothers John S. Mitchell and wife Arlene and Charles B. Mitchell and wife Marie.
David graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1953 and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Korea. He was a superintendent at Manzi Electric as a master electrician for over 40 years before retiring in 1996. He was a proud member of the IBEW for almost 70 years. He married his wife Joyce in 1959, after meeting her at a dance. They were married for 66 years and have five daughters.
David was a dedicated husband and father who always put his family first. He was known for his faith, quick wit and fantastic sense of humor. David's greatest pride and happiest moments were found amongst his family. He loved opportunities to bring everyone together for holidays, birthdays, family celebrations or to just watch, "the game." He was an avid sports fan, with a special fondness for both the Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. He and his wife loved to travel and he was proud of the fact that he went to every state in the United States except Alaska.
David is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 66 years Joyce; cherished daughters Barbara (Mitchell) Strzykalski and husband Gerald, Mary Beth (Mitchell) Gallahue and husband Michael, Susan Mitchell, Kathleen Mitchell and Andrea Mitchell; five loving grandchildren Daved Strzykalski, Alyssa Strzykalski, Andrew Strzykalski, Luka Gunter and Grace Gunter; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday in St. Anne Parish, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH at 11:00 AM. Please meet directly at church. U.S. Marine Corps honors will follow. Private interment will take place in Atkinson Cemetery.
