Ernest Carpenter Obituary

Plaistow: Ernest A. "Ernie" Carpenter, 78, of Plaistow, passed away peacefully in his home on January 26, 2025, with his loving wife, Linda by his side. Born in Dover, NH, Ernie was raised in Atkinson by Madeline and Clarence Ordway. He attended Atkinson Academy and the Sanborn Seminary, Kingston. Ernie served in the United States Navy from 1966 until 1970 and was stationed for most of his service time aboard the USS Glennon DD840. Ernie and Linda married in 1968 and had three children that they raised in the home on Main St. Plaistow, that he took so much pride in maintaining. Following his honorable discharge and returning to New Hampshire, he worked as a glazer at Demers Plate Glass and later Eastern Plate Glass. Ernie went on to become as successful businessman in 1980 when he established Timberlane Plate Glass Co. in Plaistow with his partner, Jerry Sheehan, and served as president of the company for thirty-two years until his retirement. Ernie took great pride in being a steadfast husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He enjoyed tending to his yard, puttering around in his garage, riding his motorcycles, camping, caring for his antique car collection and vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee. He especially enjoyed front porch sitting and regular visits to the beach with the love of his life, Linda. Ernie was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a longtime member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Plaistow. Ernie leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-six years, Linda J. (Murphy) Carpenter, two daughters, Deborah Carpenter of Plaistow and Karen Perry and her husband, Ronald, of Sandown; a son, Eric Carpenter and his wife Jillian of Spring Hill, Florida, five grandchildren, Jeanne and her fiancé, Patrick, Kira, Emmalyn, Nora and Colt and he was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-granddaughter. He is also survived by brothers, John Carpenter of Exeter and Roger Ordway of Plaistow, sisters, Hope Murray of Atkinson, Brenda Galloway of Plaistow, and Jeanne Gariepy of Atkinson; and many foster siblings and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers George Carpenter and Ronald Ordway, and a sister, Barbara Carifio. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home and will be followed by the rendering of military honors by the U.S. Navy in the military honors plaza on the grounds of the funeral home.
