Mark Guida Obituary
Mark David Guida of Haverhill, MA, passed away on April 11, 2025 following a courageous year-long battle with biliary cancer.
Mark was the youngest of three boys, a surprise addition to the Guida family, and often joked he was the "happy accident" that no one saw coming. His parents, Mary and Dr. Carmine Guida, clearly weren't expecting another child when Mark came along, considering his brothers Paul and Rick were eight and sixteen years older, respectively. Despite the age gap, Mark always managed to keep the family on their toes with his humor, charm, and lovable antics.
Mark spent the first part of his life in Stoneham, MA, and later found his greatest joy in Haverhill, MA with his wife Rachel. Their 20-year love story was a testament to true partnership. They married in 2009 and created a family filled with love, laughter, and a shared appreciation for adventure. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Dexter and Abby, and were constantly accompanied by their beloved dog, Holly.
As a dad, Mark was a force of nature. Whether they were traveling to the Bahamas, dancing to music in the living room, or taking on rides at amusement parks that left him questioning his life choices, Mark lived for the experiences that would make his kids smile. His chocolate shakes, made with the perfect balance of sweetness and love, will forever be a staple in their memories.
But anyone who knew Mark knew his love for fun didn't stop at his kids. Mark was a master of good times and gatherings, always the life of the party. Whether hosting his famous Survivor-themed parties as a young man or organizing the legendary annual Guida cookout with an ice cream truck, a live band, and a guest list long enough to fill a stadium, Mark never missed a chance to bring people together for a good time. Even through his cancer battle, he never lost his sense of humor. He faced it all with a smile on his face and a joke in his pocket. And let's be honest, it's probably safe to say he would have insisted on a party to celebrate his life, because that's just who he was.
Mark is now reunited with his parents, Mary and Carmine, brother Rick, in-laws Richard and Susan Letourneau, and his friend Larry Marcus. He leaves behind a hole in the hearts of many, especially his wife Rachel, his children Dexter and Abby, his brother Paul Guida and his husband Michael Martinek of Palm Springs, CA, sister-in-law Marie Guida of Tewksbury, MA, sister-in-law Megan and her husband Chad Ashworth of North Andover, MA, sister-in-law Caitlyn and her husband Will Medugno of Haverhill, MA, as well as his nieces and nephews: Adriana, Jess, Alyssa, Tyler, Jason, Madelyn, Jolene, Hope, and Riley.
In his memory, we share one of Mark's favorite quotes: "I'm pretty sure. I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure if you die, the cancer dies at the same time. That's not a loss, that's a draw." - Norm Macdonald.
Mark's love, laughter, and light will never be forgotten. And knowing Mark, he'd probably say this whole obituary was too serious-so here's to you, Mark, for making us laugh, love, and live every day a little brighter. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
