Venesianos "Veneti" Stamateas

Venesianos (Veneti) Stamateas, 88, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully with family by his side. Born in Tseria, Greece, he was the son of the late Socrates and Evangelia (Safioleas) Stamateas. In 1973, Veneti immigrated to Haverhill with his wife and two young children. He ran a Greek coffee house and later became a skilled painter, founding Alpha Painting. A devoted family man, Veneti loved hosting friends and family and enjoyed basketball and soccer, always cheering for his favorite teams. He especially cherished his grandsons, Venetsianos and Christos, taking great pride in the young men they became. They were his greatest treasures and the light of his final years. Veneti is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maria (Kammas) Stamateas; his son, Socrates V. Stamateas, and wife Helen of Merrimac; and his grandsons, Venetsianos S. and Christos. He is also survived by his sister, Panayiota Yannakoureas, and many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law in Greece and the United States. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Evangelia Stamateas. Visitation is Monday, Sept. 22, from 10–11 AM at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 154 Winter St., Haverhill.
