Clifford E. Plunk, 81, of Quincy, IL, passed away at 5:58 am Monday, March 4, 2024, at his home.
Friends and Family are invited to Clifford's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:00pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL. The Quincy Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic services towards the end of the visitation on Friday at 6:45 pm.
Born on August 19, 1942, in Doniphan, MO, Clifford was a man of great character and warmth, whose presence brought joy to all who knew him.
Clifford was the beloved son of Clifford L. and Fern M. (Hoskins) Plunk. His life was a testament to love and commitment, as evidenced by his marriage to Shelly G. Smith on July 20, 2019, at South Park in Quincy, IL. Shelly remains to honor his memory, along with a loving family that includes his children, Brenda Martin (Richard) of Fowler, IL, and Timothy E. Plunk (Laura) of Quincy; his stepchildren, Brad Dickson (Lois), Dwayne Zanger (Sarah), and Teri Zanger (Jeff Courtois), all of Quincy; and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clifford's legacy is also carried on by his sister, Bonnie Satterfield of Jefferson City, MO; his brothers, Ronnie Plunk (Rosie), Donnie Plunk, and Steve Plunk (Lu), all of whom added to the richness of his life.
Before retiring in 2023, Clifford dedicated his professional life to serving others as an insurance agent for Banker's Life. His career path also saw him behind the wheel as a truck driver for Churchill Truckline, Bemis, and Monte Christner Company, and working with his father painting commercial and residential properties. Clifford's commitment to his community was further exemplified by his involvement as a Master Mason in the Bodley Lodge Number One, where he shared his wisdom and camaraderie.
Clifford's passions painted the picture of a man who truly lived life to the fullest. An avid bass fisherman, he not only participated in the Amateur Bass Pro Circuit but also shared his expertise as a guide at Tan Tara Resorts in the Lake of the Ozarks. His love for the outdoors extended to mushroom hunting, taking leisurely walks in South Park, and enjoying scenic drives along the river, where he would observe the birds, ducks, and eagles in their natural habitat. Clifford's four-legged companions, Sadie, Katy, Sissy, and Misty were a source of great joy and companionship.
Nascar races, the music of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, and his Irish heritage were among Clifford's other enjoyments. He took pride in his roots, cherishing the St. Patrick's Day cards sent by his mother from Ireland each year. Clifford's zest for life and his ability to find happiness in the simple things were truly inspiring.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew Larry D. Howlett, and his stepdaughter, Terri Smith. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire them. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
