BASCO, Ill. -- Haletta Annetta Folkerts, 86, of Basco, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday (March 5, 2014) in the Montebello Care Center, Hamilton.
Haletta was born May 21, 1927, in rural Basco, a daughter of Herman and Tena Fecht Berg. On April 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Frederick Folkerts in Immanuel Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She attended Union School and later completed her G.E.D. She was confirmed on March 29, 1942, by Pastor Whittig in Immanuel Lutheran Church. As a lifetime member of Immanuel, she was busy teaching Sunday school and Bible school, participating in the Mary Martha Circle and the Ruth Circle, and serving on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the activity group, and her proudest accomplishments were sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief and making items for the layettes and assembling them. She was an active Sunday school member and was involved in the Monday evening prayer and Bible study group and the Immanuel Singles Club.
Outside of church, Haletta was a 4-H leader and Cub Scout leader, a member of the Bentley Saddle Club, the Basco Walkers, Carthage Senior Center and H.U.G.S.
Survivors include five children, Sharon Johnson and her husband, Norman, of Carthage, Ruth Fugate and her husband, Duane, of Carthage, Maxine Smart and her husband, Jim, of Carthage, Florine Dixon and her husband, Rick, of Burnside and Ed Folkerts and his wife, Sandra, of Basco; ten grandchildren, Valerie (Franz) Dunsworth, Rodney (Sondra) Johnson, Tammy (Michael) Kost, Scott Fugate, Rex (Amber LaBonte) Smart, Jennifer (Calvin) Quesenberry, Melinda (Joshua) Smith, Bradley (Elizabeth) Dixon, Amanda (Rich) Edmunds and Cassandra (Brian Rea) Folkerts; 11 great-grandchildren, Franz (Nicole Elkin) Dunsworth and Brock (Patti Best) Dunsworth, Nicole (Brad) Cook, Sara Kost, Madison Quesenberry, Kyle, Evan and Maci Smith and Anna, Emily and Mariah Dixon; four great-great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Alonna, Neveah and Braedyn; a sister, Clarine Hurt, of Basco; and a sister-in-law, Jean Berg.
In addition to her husband, Haletta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Julius Berg; a sister, Alberta Krieg; and two brothers-in-law, Don Hurt and Ernest Krieg.
SERVICES: 3 p.m. Saturday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Basco. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
VISITATION: 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Printy Funeral Home, Carthage, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
MEMORIALS: St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
