James Michael Schell (Jim), of Livingston, MT passed away February 13th, 2025. He was 69 years old.
Jim was born May 11th, 1955, in Quincy, Illinois to Mark and Leanne Schell. He moved west at the age of 17 where he drove stagecoaches for the Rosevelt and worked at cattle ranches like the Matador, Snowcrest, and Padlock to name a few. He partnered on his first outfitting business in 1980, taking big game hunters in southwest Montana. In 1986, he started his own outfitting business "Lone Willow Creek Guide Service". He facilitated and guided the hunting of elk, deer, antelope and black bear in the Castle Mountains and the Gallatin Range. Jim also took fisherman on guided drift boat trips down the Yellowstone, Gallatin and Madison rivers to name a few. He outfitted big game hunters up until 2020 and continued to take fisherman down the river through 2024.
Jim was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend who embodied the very essence of love, kindness, unwavering support and humor. He was dedicated to spending time with loved ones no matter the distance. He had a knack at recounting his past years of ranching, outfitting and a wide range of adventures he had through his enthusiasm of the outdoors.
He leaves behind cherished memories and a profound impact on the lives of all who know him. He was always young at heart and most children were drawn to his fun-loving personality. He was a loyal comrade and mentor.
Jim passed away peacefully in his home. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and looked forward to eternity with Him.
