Janet Peters Obituary

Janet Katherine Brueggeman Peters joined her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, June 23, 2012, after a short battle with leukemia.

Born March 6, 1943, she was the middle child of Frank and Mildred Schreacke Brueggeman.

On April 24, 1965, she married the love of her life and best friend, Gerald A. "Jerry" Peters who survives.

Janet and Jerry lived in the home place of Jerry's parents, Arthur and Rosina Schulze Peters. Janet was the proud and loving mother of Eric Arthur Peters, Troy Frank Peters and Tammy Rose Peters Bruns, all of Quincy, who survive her. Also loved and cherished by her were her daughters-in-law Dawn Eaton Peters and Kim Barnett Peters and son-in-law, Adam Bruns. She was a loving grandmother to Taylor and McKenna Peters, Christian and Alexander Peters, Katherine Cowan and Gage Bruns, all of Quincy.

Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Gardner-Denver Co., and Electric Wheel. A homemaker and mom during her children's growing years, she served as room mother at St. Mary's School, Den mother, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, and assisted her husband coaching T-ball and Little League baseball teams.

Janet joined the Quincy College/University family in 1982 and was the executive assistant to the vice president for University Advancement. During her employment at QU she served on numerous committees and chaired the QU Staff Council for seven years and was a member of the President's Tea Committee. She served as a past board member of the Quincy Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and was secretary of the Quincy Sister City Commission for many years, member of the Great River Genealogical Society, Quincy Preserves, and was active in Quincy Cursillo. Janet enjoyed genealogy and, with her husband, visited Germany in 1998 to visit the birthplaces of family members.

Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her husband, children and especially her grandchildren. They all brought the greatest joy to her life. She believed that this life is only kindergarten in preparation for the life that is to come to each of us.

Janet is also survived by her sister, Judy (Bob) Winking and her brother, Bob (Stephanie) Brueggeman, all of Quincy, her brother Chuck (Nikki) Brueggeman of Brazil, Ind.; her sisters-in-law, Carol Fessenden of Palmyra, Mo., Mary Lou Peters and Ruth (Don) Altmix of Quincy, her brothers-in-law, Howard (Lois) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Roger Richmiller of Quincy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly

Janet joins God's heavenly home and reunites with her parents; her brother, Jerry Brueggeman, and in-laws, Arthur, Rosina, Bobby, Richard "Dick," Russell "Doc," Margaret Peters and Betty Richmiller.

SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: Janet's wish was that memorials be made to the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry at St. Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy, to feed those in need.

Jerry & Family...Janet was a live wire...always the life of the party. I bet that's what she's doing now...cutting up with Jerry and Mom & Dad. The last time I saw her was at Cursillo. She took that very seriously. God Love Her...I know we all do.

Jerry and Family

Well, we really lost a good one this time and even though I hadnt seen her often lately I will miss her dearly.

In the recent pass we e-mailed often and her attitude was amazing. Sometimes I'd wondered how she could be so upbeat with every thing she went through.

We knew each other since we were little girls and one of my favorite memories of her is when, in high school we went on a train to St. Louis for a retreat she pretended she was a foreign exchange student from France. With her short hair she looked the part and her accent was perfect even though neither she or anyone else knew what she was saying. She really had some of the passengers fooled.

One thing I did come to to know is how she treasured all of you and loved life.

Sorry I wont be able to attend her services but please know you and she are in my prayers.
