Jeff Bower, 61, of Barry, IL, passed away at his home surrounded by his devoted family after an incredibly hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer. Jesus came to receive him at 6:45 a.m., knowing that Jeff would be ready to go bright and early-in typical farmer fashion.
Born on March 8, 1964, Jeff lived life to the fullest, with a larger-than-life personality and a talent for making people laugh. He was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his own back if you asked. His generous heart, bright blue eyes, and mischievous smile will never be forgotten.
As a kid, his dream was to become a farmer-in addition to achieving that dream, he also succeeded in being a human GPS, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and arguably the best chef in the state of Illinois (and possibly the world). Jeff was also an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting and fishing.
Jeff is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Catherine Bower; his beloved children, Michael (Helen) Bower, Michelle (Elias) Granadillo, and Amanda (Bruce) Nieders; the mother of his children, Debbie Bower; his stepdaughter, Casey Codd Montney; and his flock of grandchildren: Grace, David, Elsey, Elijah, Sandy, Aiden, Asher, Gabriel, Adelynn, and Ava. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy Bower, and his sister, Beth Bower. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren "Neil" Bower.
Visitation: A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, from 4:00-7:00pm at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home. Formal-wear discouraged; please wear flannel in memory of Jeff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Jeff by sharing a story, firing up the grill, or lending a hand to someone in need-just like he would have done.
Memorials: Memorial contributions in Jeff's name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Blessing Oncology Department, two causes close to Jeff's heart. Memorial Donations may be made online at https://memorials.hansenspear.com
