Sonny's beloved wife, Sherry, passed away in 2019, after 60 years of marriage. Their union brought about two beloved daughters, Vicki Lynn (Blake) Hiland of Plainville, IL, and Lisa Ann Campbell of Payson, IL. Sonny and Sherry have five grandchildren, Eric (Cheryl) Hiland of Payson, IL, John Hiland, who passed away in 2003, Latisha (Jamie) Morris of Quincy, Cody Campbell and his girlfriend Amberlee of Quincy, and Nickie (Ryan) Schaffer of Quincy. In the 1959 Payson-Seymour yearbook Senior Class Prophecy, it says "Sonny Laws and his wife, the former Sherry Hull, are dancing their way to stardom on a New York Stage". Sonny said that one of the highlights of his life was going on the Great River Honor Flight in 2024 with his best friend and golf buddy, Blake Hiland.
