Larry Edwards Obituary

Larry Dean Edwards, 63, of Springfield, Ill., formerly of Quincy, died at 8:01 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 21, 2013) in St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Born Dec. 8, 1949 in Quincy, Larry was a son of Glenn and Darlene Gatewood Edwards. He was married to Carol Bowen.

Larry was a 1968 graduate of Quincy High School and received his bachelor's degree in education from Western Illinois University and his master's degree in counseling from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Mo.

He taught school for several years in the Quincy Public School System at Adams and Washington schools. He later moved to Springfield, where he was employed as a supervisor with the Department of Human Services until his retirement in 2012. Following his retirement, Larry enjoyed being a substitute teacher in the Springfield area.

Larry was an active supporter of the Animal Protective League in Springfield. He enjoyed bingo, going to local community theater groups and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Jason Edwards of Quincy; a daughter, Angela Jones (Brian) of Wellsville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Landry Edwards and Dakota Jones; two brothers, Roger Edwards (Marcia) of Quincy and David Edwards of Surf Side Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Linda Edwards of Quincy and Nancy Edwards of Henderson, Tenn.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Ehresman conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

VISITATION: 4-7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday morning until the time of services in the funeral home.

MEMORIALS: American Heart Association.

ARRANGEMENTS: Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

Always remember Larry and hanging in the garage on Bluff Court with Danni and Ray. Larry was always so happy and had that booming laugh. He truly would do anything for anybody, he will be missed
