Lisa C. Rust, 63, of Ursa, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Born in Quincy, Illinois, on March 9, 1963, she was the daughter of Donald R. and Virginia "Ginny" (Coulson) Maas. Lisa graduated from Unity High School in 1981.
She married Don Rust at Zion United Church of Christ in Ursa, Illinois, on September 13, 2003. For 13 years, Lisa operated Learning Lane Daycare in Mendon, where her passion for nurturing and teaching children shone brightly.
Lisa enjoyed attending flea markets and fairs, decorating her home, and spending quality time with loved ones. She enjoyed sports; she loved tennis, softball, and volleyball, and followed St. Louis Cardinals baseball and NASCAR racing as a fan. She loved her family and especially cherished being a grandma. One of her most treasured family traditions was celebrating Father's Day by the pool.
Lisa leaves behind her husband, Don Rust of Ursa, and her mother, Virginia "Ginny" Maas of Mendon. She is also survived by her daughter, Kaylee (Sean) Mahaffey of Mendon; two stepdaughters, Adrienne (Tim) Ries of Sheffield, Illinois, and Carla (Marc) Carey of Seminole, Florida; her brother, David (Lisa) Maas; and sisters Sharon (Rodney) Gooding and Barb Epker, all of Mendon. Her grandchildren include Karson Wittler, Axle Mahaffey, Hazel Mahaffey, Raymond Carey, and Lauren (Alex) Schmidt. In addition, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members remain.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald R. Maas; her sister, Ruth Ann Maas; and her grandson, Andrew Frese.
Funeral services will be held for Lisa at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at J. Otto Funeral Home in Mendon, Illinois, with Ralph Fairchild officiating. In accordance with Lisa's wishes, she will be cremated following the service, and a private interment of her ashes at Calvary Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the J. Otto Funeral Home in Mendon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Quincy Humane Society. You are invited to share your memories of Lisa and leave condolences at www.jottofunealhomes.com
