M. Dalene Goewey, age 91, of Griggsville, Il. died Thursday afternoon (December 30, 2021) at Griggsville Estates surrounded by her children after a nine-year battle with cancer.
She was born November 26, 1930, in Sargent, Nebraska daughter of the late W. Eldon and Leona M. Speer Sleight.
She married Archie Goewey on April 2, 1949, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 1988.
Surviving are her children, Kevin R. Goewey (Bev) of Pittsfield, Il., Candria L. Moore (Gary) of Quincy, Il. and Kent E. Goewey (Angie) of Griggsville, Il., and son-in-law, Dennis C. Grimm of Quincy, Il.; grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Grimm, Jacqueline K. Sterling, Bradley J. Goewey (Mindy), Jayme L. Crowder (Marcus), Tyler R. Moore (Amanda), Nathan W. Moore (friend Jenna Lindsay), Austin Schrader (friend Caitlin Kunkel), and Kalli Goewey (friend Avery Fader); eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Patricia Capps of Pittsfield, Il. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Archie; daughter Christine K. Grimm; a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Lyle Pool; half-sister Gladys Huffman; a brother John Wesley Sleight in infancy; a nephew, Steve Smith; and a special friend, Wayne Liehr.
Dalene was a 1948 graduate of Griggsville High School. She was a very active member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church until her health would not allow. She retired from Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, Il. She was an avid Cardinal fan, so much so that those who knew her knew not to call or visit during a game. She was always doing something with her hands – quilting, cooking, working puzzles, sewing, and knitting to name a few. Her quilts were always done by hand and beautiful. Spending time with her family and friends was time she most cherished.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday (January 4, 2022) at Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time-of-service Tuesday at the chapel. We are very sorry we can't be there for the service. We both have covid and are trying to fight our way through that. We hope the weather turn out to be good.
