Marie "Sammy" Martin

1924 - 2016

CAMP POINT, Ill. -- Marie "Sammy" Martin, 91, of Golden Good Shepherd Home, formerly of Camp Point, died Saturday, March 26, 2016, at the home.

She was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Golden. She was a daughter of John B. Saathoff and Annie Kaufman. She married William Dillard Martin on April 7, 1946, at Mayfair Lutheran Church in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004.

She graduated from Golden High School and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ruth Circle and Lutheran Woman's Group. Marie taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She was a devoted mother and housewife who loved and cared for her family unconditionally.

Surviving are three children, the Rev. Ronald Martin and his wife, Jo, of Orange, Calif., Michael Martin and his wife, Theresa, of Camp Point and Barbara Pool and her husband, Terry, of Mount Sterling; eight grandchildren, David, Michael, and Becky Martin and her husband, Willie Murillo, of Orange, David Pool and his wife, Becky, of Fillmore, Craig Pool and his wife, Renee Lyn, of Concord, Heather Schladt and her husband, Chris, of Milan, Jennifer Martin of Camp Point and Christine Martin of Aurora. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren to mourn her loss.

SERVICES: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, with Pastor Linda Murray conducting. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery at Camp Point.

VISITATION: 9 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church.
