Mary DeSutter Obituary

Mary Ann DeSutter, 89, of St. Joseph Home in Lacon, formerly of Kewanee, died Thursday evening (May 10, 2012) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Mary Ann was born July 14, 1922, in rural Kewanee, a daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth Engels VanWassenhove. She married Joseph DeSutter on June 30, 1951 in Kewanee. He survives.

Mary Ann had been employed at the former Kewanee Works Walworth Co. and Boss Glove, retiring in 1952.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Kewanee and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Kewanee. She was a member of the Kewanee VFW Auxiliary, Kewanee Historical Society and was a former member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women.

Mary Ann enjoyed working in her flower garden and reading.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Josephine (Tom) Arnold of Quincy; one son, Father Mark DeSutter of Morton; a grandson, Matthew (Lisa) Arnold and their daughter Madeleine of Alexandria, Va.; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Brock) Sousa of Quincy and their daughter Mackenzie and Kate Arnold of Quincy; and two brothers, Eugene VanWassenhove and Larry VanWassenhove, both of Kewanee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, M. Joseph VanWassenhove.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee, with the Rev. Mark DeSutter conducting. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kewanee.

VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee, with a rosary service at 8 p.m.

MEMORIALS: St. Francis of Assisi Church or the St. Joseph Home in Lacon.
