Merle J. "Jay" Cobb

1941 - 2017

QUINCY -- Merle J. "Jay" Cobb, 76, of Good Samaritan Home, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at the home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1941, in Quincy, a son of Merle and Betty Harness Cobb. He married Constance "Connie" Hagerbaumer on Jan. 20, 1961, at Saint Francis Catholic Church, Quincy. She preceded him in death Nov. 16, 2009.

Jay worked for CIPS for many years. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was extremely proud of his service to the country. Jay enjoyed camping and fishing. He also liked shooting trap.

Jay is survived by three siblings, Sandy Schildt and husband Ron of Fowler, Bill Cobb and wife Sharon of Quincy and Lori Dickhut and husband Dan of Paloma. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews along with other relatives and many friends also survive.

In addition to his wife, Jay was preceded in death by his parents.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at the chapel of Good Samaritan Home. Burial in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by the United States Marine Funeral Detail and American Legion Post No. 37.

VISITATION: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, to Good Samaritan Home.
