Michael Nutt Obituary

Michael Anthony Nutt, age 33, of Harima, Japan, formerly of Quincy, passed away in his home, in Japan, on August 17, 2023. He was born August 26, 1989, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL to Russell 'Tony' and Jo (Allensworth) Nutt.

Michael was a 2008 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He then went on to John Wood Community College, where he was part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, graduating with his Associate's Degree in science in 2010. After John Wood, Michael went to Illinois College, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a dual Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering and Japanese Studies in 2016. He was part of a study abroad J.E.T. (Japanese English Teaching) program where he studied for a year at Ritsumeikan University located in Kyoto, Japan. Here, Michael fell more in love with the Japanese culture, language, and teaching programs to which he was exposed. This catapulted him into his career and dream of being a teacher in Japan. He had a passion for experiencing other cultures and celebrated the differences of everyone he encountered in his lifetime. He taught grades ranging from kindergarten to seniors in high school. He was also the head of his students' debate team and led them from never winning a debate to winning international titles. As an educator, Michael also taught children with autism while in Japan. He was passionate about these students and claimed he "learned more from them" than they had learned from him. Michael was an educator in Japan for the past 7 years.

Michael was one of the easiest-going people who could talk about anything with anyone. No topic was off-limits. He was incredibly intelligent and had vast knowledge on an array of different subjects. He never passed judgment on others and was a firm believer in fair chances. Michael loved his family fiercely and was always a good shoulder to lean on when you needed someone. He was exceptionally kind to everyone around him. Michael had a way of making everyone feel included and worth something. Michael was a member of Salem Evangelical Church located in Quincy, IL.

Michael is survived by: his parents, Tony and Jo Nutt of Quincy, IL. His paternal grandmother, Wanda Nutt of Quincy, IL. His paternal step-grandmother, Phyllis Nutt of Quincy, IL. Two siblings: Ethan Nutt (Sherry) of Wentzville, MO and Dani Nutt (Jordan Agard) of Quincy, IL. Two nieces and one nephew: Isabell Nutt of Little Rock, AR., Addison Nutt of Wentzville, MO., and Brady Nutt of Wentzville, MO. His aunts and uncles: Timothy Nutt, Jill Eckelberry, Jay Nutt (Lori), Kenneth Allensworth (Mary), Debbie Dalton, and Cindy Terwische (Byron). Numerous great aunts and uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends also survive.

Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Robert Nutt, and his maternal grandparents: Kenneth and Nelda Allensworth.
