He moved from Quincy to Orlando in 1972 and began his career working at the Contemporary Resort Hotel at Walt Disney World. He enjoyed working in various departments and outdoor activities such as lifeguard, water light shows and the food and service industry. In 1990 he began work in the fire extinguisher business, first with American Fire Extinguisher, Melbourne. In 2000 he became an independent contractor in Fire Extinguisher Systems in Orlando. Finally, from 2005 until 2008 he worked as a fire suppression specialist for Wiginton Fire Systems in Sanford, Fla.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. Hunting, camping, archery and water skiing were just a few of his favorite pastimes. As a past member of the Orlando Archery Club, he enjoyed organizing and competing in their archery competition.
